Cement Mill Trunnion Bearings | Floating-End Solutions for Ball Mills
OEM & Replacement NU Bearings for Ball Mill Floating-End. Compensate Thermal Expansion, Prevent Bearing Seizure.
Why Cement Mills Use NU Trunnion Bearings
Floating-end bearing solutions for thermal expansion compensation.
Cement ball mills typically use a fixed-end and floating-end bearing arrangement.
NU cylindrical roller bearings are widely used at the floating end because they allow axial displacement between the shaft and housing during operation.
This design helps compensate for thermal expansion of the trunnion shaft while maintaining high radial load capacity and operational reliability.
How NU Bearings Work in Cement Mills
Cement ball mills typically use a fixed-end bearing and a floating-end bearing arrangement. The NU cylindrical roller bearing allows axial displacement caused by thermal expansion of the mill trunnion.

Cement Mill Bearing FAQs
What bearing is used in cement mill trunnions?
Cement mill trunnions adopt two sets of supporting bearings: spherical roller bearings for fixed-end location and NU single row cylindrical roller bearings installed on floating trunnion side, which is the most popular matching configuration for medium & large cement ball mill.
Why are NU bearings used as floating-end bearings?
NU type cylindrical roller bearing has no inner ring flange, enabling free axial sliding between rollers and inner ring. It absorbs shaft elongation from heat expansion during mill running, avoiding extra axial compression load and bearing seizure.
Can spherical roller bearings replace NU bearings?
No, standard spherical roller bearings cannot fully substitute NU bearings for floating end. Spherical roller bearings restrict axial displacement and will generate huge axial stress when trunnion expands, leading to early overheating and damage of bearing sets.
How do cement mill trunnion bearings handle thermal expansion?
Fixed end spherical roller bearing locks axial position of the mill trunnion; floating-end NU bearing permits the trunnion shaft to stretch axially inside bearing rollers to offset length increase caused by continuous high working temperature.
What causes cement mill bearing failure?
Common failure reasons include improper lubrication, contaminated grease/oil with cement dust, wrong installation clearance, overloading operation, insufficient floating space for thermal expansion and unqualified raw material of bearing steel.
How do I select the correct trunnion bearing size?
Selection depends on mill specification (diameter & length), trunnion journal dimension, actual operating load, rotating speed and working environment; we match standard or redesigned NU bearing according to your mill drawing and operating parameters.
Do you manufacture custom large-size cement mill bearings?
Yes, our factory supports OEM customized production. We produce large bore NU bearings ranging from 150mm up to 1200mm inner diameter with optional brass or steel cages to fit various non-standard cement mill trunnion demands.
